5 Reasons to Love the Motorola Droid Turbo 2

5 Reasons to Love the Droid Turbo 2 from Verizon.
1) ShatterProof Display

This is the first smartphone ever that claims to be shatter proof. Motorola’s ‘ShatterShield’ display is composed of five layers (a rigid aluminum core; AMOLED flexible display; dual touch layer; interior lens; and an exterior lens on the touch surface). Motorola claims the screen on the Turbo 2 is “guaranteed not to crack or shatter” and backs up the claim with a four-year shatterproof warranty.

This may seem outlandish, or too good to be true, but it isn’t. I got to watch a demonstration recently by one of the phones creators. He dropped the phone on the solid piece of concrete, and it didn’t crack, not even a scratch. Then he stood on a chair, raised the phone up over his head and dropped it again. Still no cracks. He did say that it is not perfect, and that under certain circumstances it could be scratched or blemished, but nothing that would cause you to have to buy a new phone.

2) Battery Life

The DROID Turbo 2’s 48-hour battery life, is anchored by’TurboPower’ charging. I was lucky enough to get a quick engineering lesson from the same person I mentioned above. He explained how this was the most important part of the phone to him, because it presented the biggest challenge. I still don’t fully understand how it works, but I do know that their new algorithm is groundbreaking. Motorola designed the DROID Turbo 2 to provide more than a full day of heavy use, and I can safely say that is does. I’ve had the phone for over a month now and it withstood the test. Even through my busy holiday season.

DROID Turbo 2 also has a rapid charge feature Motorola calls “TurboPower” that’s designed to quickly power up the handset. More specifically, you should be able to get “up to 13 hours of power in just 15 minutes” of charging when you use the supplied TurboPower adapter — which, by the way, is kind of large and clunky. Anyone who is a heavy user should appreciate that long life.

3) DROID Turbo 2 Works With PMA and Qi wireless power

There are two wireless standards in today’s world of: the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) standard, and the rival Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) standard, called “Qi” and pronounced “chee.” The DROID Turbo 2 not only charges wirelessly, but will work with both! This is a feature I didn’t even know I needed, until I had it. Now anytime I have to use the cord it seems like a pain. The one big difference though, is the turbocharger restores power MUCH faster than its wireless counterpart. Still, if you are going to bed, laying it on the wireless charger is pretty sweet.

4) Customization

Moto Maker lets Turbo 2 buyers pick from three different materials for the device’s rear cover (a rubber-like “soft grip,” stain-resistant material; ballistic nylon; and pebbled leather), along with many different color options for the gadget’s front panel, accents and trim. Having seen and felt all these materials, I can tell you that they are all very nice. If you opt for the 64GB version, you can trade your device in for another color combination once during the two years after your purchase.

5) 21MP camera

Megapixels don’t mean very much anymore. I can remember when a good point and shoot camera only had 5MP! Most camera phones today have a minimum of 12MP. When it comes to the image quality, this phone is hard to beat. The iPhone 6S takes comparable pictures to the DROID Turbo 2, but I can’t say they are any better.

Disclosure: As member of a pretty cool team of influencers, I received the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with line of service from Verizon. No additional compensation was provided nor did I promise positive feedback. All opinions are my own.
