Can the TSU Social Network Change the Facebook Paradigm

TSU is a new social network that’s aim is to change the way you use social media. Their users claim TSU to be changing the ‘Facebook paradigm’. The site launched October 21st, and some say it is the next big change in how we use the internet. The basic premise of the site is to share it’s ad revenue with the actual people who are creating the content, it’s users. This idea appeals to some, and turns others away immediately. I usually sign up regardless, just to see what’s going to happen.

I joined Facebook in the summer of 2007. I can’t believe it’s been that long! Back then there were no pages, only profiles. There was no selling or marketing. All of my friends were under the age of 30, and most were just out of college. At the time I felt like I was one hundred years old! One thing I enjoyed right away though, was the engagement. It’s amazing how fun, and creative social media can be when it is actually social, and not spam.

Facebook, and their investors, are profiting from user-generated content. This concept leaves the user out in the cold. Sure, they can share pics or videos with family or friends, but what’s that worth? Facebook is the only one who sees all the money from targeted ads that go directly to companies.

Tsu is free and invite-only – and seems to have a sustainable premise and business model. “Established social networks have built amazing business models prospering on the total monetization of free user-generated content,” says tsu founder Sebastian Sobczak. “Why should anyone commercially benefit from someone else’s image, likeness and work giving no financial return to the owner? The markets we participate in are enormous, growing and can materially compensate each user — we’re simply and uniquely rewarding the users who are doing all the work. This is the way the world should work.”

    So there is some vague promise of being paid for being an advertisers lab rat. No promise of privacy. No promise to address any other concern that social media (which should be called Advertising Media) “users” currently have.

    We are more than just entitled to rewards from the rife and unfair trade of advertising. We deserve first to be recognized as humans with social needs – we are not robots who actively seek advertising. We have no necessity to adhere to the featureless plain of advertising media.

    So please stop pretending you can woo the crowd with a re-take of Facebook. This is an illusion of choice, particularly when one attempts to sign upto TSU, and the fascist policies inherent to FB rear upwards again: “Verify your indentity.” No! Not when you do not disclose anything of your agenda, policies or identity.

    Is it a weird coincidence that TSU says we can “link our facebook” and connect on TSU with all the people we know at Facebook?

    It’s all bullshit and fraud.
